The arraignment of three teenage boys at a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Benin on Monday caused a mild drama in the court as the Chief Magistrate gave a sermon on forgiveness to a Reverend of a church.

The name of the three boys involved in the case who were between 15 and 17 years of age, were given as Goodluck Benson, Omoruyi Isaiah and Ediomwan Desmond. They were alleged to have stolen N11,500 and a Techno phone worth N4000 inside St. Paul Anglican Church, Ologbo village in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

They however escaped death by the whiskers when a mob was said to have beaten then to pulp and placed tyres on their necks, but were fortunately rescued by the police.

The drama ensued when the boys were to be arraigned at the court on a four count charge of stealing and belonging to an unlawful secret cult called Blade.

One of the suspects, Benson, told Chief Magistrate Esohe Bazuaye told the court that he was 17 years old and not 19 as written by the police on the charge sheet.

The suspects informed the Magistrate that they were from broken homes and were not caught at the scene of the crime, saying that they confessed because the mob threatened to kill them.

Enraged by the revelation of the suspects, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Esohe Bazuaye, sought to know why the suspects were not taken to a juvenile court.

She then pleaded with the Pastor in charge of the church, Rev. Johnson Nwatamuojor, to forgive the suspects and rather join hands in rehabilitating them, adding that if sent to a remand home, the suspects would become more hardened.

“Has God not given you the assignment to win souls? We can turn the lives of these kids around by making them become something better in the future. No child is too difficult to be placed on the right path. As a man of God, the church can pay for their upkeep. Their present situation is not their fault, it is the parents’.

“Don’t give up on them. You have lots of sheep. These are part of the weak ones,” Chief Magistrate Bazuaye pleaded.

Rev. Johnson who alleged in his comment that the suspects have been rooted in anti-social activities, said he was happy that the suspects were arrested and that he could not stop the police from doing their job.

The suspects were later taken to a Juvenile Court where journalists were barred from covering proceedings.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Federal Ministry of Education to include two Islamic Studies books written by the late Justice Muhammad Bashir Sambo in the secondary school curriculum for all Federal Government Colleges.
The president, who was represented by Governor Nasir el-Rufai, gave the directive in Kaduna at the weekend while launching the reviewed editions of the books which were first published in 1974. He noted that such books had become essential in the face of declining moral and religious values in the country.

The Islamic Studies for Secondary Schools, co-sponsored by the Bashir Sambo Centre for Islamic Da’awah and Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation in memory of late Justice Bashir Sambo, former Judge of Sharia Court of Appeal and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, were reviewed by Mallam Mukhtar Lere to conform with the current 6-3-3-4 educational system in the country.

Buhari thanked the co-authors for updating and structuring the books to match the new secondary school curriculum. He urged the Ministry of Education to look at the books with a view to adopting them in all government colleges.

The chairman, Board of Trustees of Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation, Alhaji Umar A. Mutallab, said the Bashir Sambo Centre for Islamic Da’awah was established by disciples and associates of late Justice Sambo in order to immortalise and inspire the legacy of the late sage.

Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, the death of whom will soon be officially announced, died at the London Clinic, located at 20 Devonshire Place in London.

The palace of the late Oba is still denying his passing, but Premium Times reported at the weekend revealed that his body has already been secretly flown into nigeria and placed within the palace to enable death rites of passage to commence.

His death is expected to be officially announced as soon as the required traditional rituals are concluded in Ile-Ife.

The Ooni was rushed to London on Friday July 24, and was taken from Heathrow Airport in an Ambulance to the clinic where he passed four days later.

As expected of tradition, the death of Ooni is being wrapped in secrecy by the traditional council in Ile-Ife. SaharaReporters has confirmed the death of the monarch, but the traditional council, which began the required rites of passage last weekend, still maintains that the Ooni is “hale and hearty”.

The Oba was conspicuously absent at his son’s wedding yesterday, however, he was represented by his traditional staff of office.

Love can sometimes be blind, especially in the midst of an engagement and wedding planning. While I don’t think that love suddenly disappears after the honeymoon, like many would suggest, I do think the reality of finances can hit couples hard after they settle down. Here are three smart financial moves every couple should
consider before tying the knot.

Reduce debt
You might not think your credit card debt and car loan are that big of a deal. In fact, you can probably afford to part a certain part payment easily each month. But your budget might start looking too tight when you combine your debt repayments with your spouse’s debt repayments, and then add on a bunch of new costs.
It is important to know how much your combined debt will be when you get married. Both you and your loved one should disclose any debt or financial obligations. Once you know your combined total of debt, try to reduce it by 50 percent before the big day. This might mean taking more hours at work, doing side jobs, or getting a second job. It is much easier to do this drastic debt attack before marriage then afterwards.

William Brown, 55, is pictured draping his arm around Natasha Cooper during her 16th birthday celebrations (centre) before her parents discovered that he was grooming and sexually abusing the teenager while living next door. Brown, a mechanic, became friendly with neighbours Anthony, 47, and Sharon Cooper, 45, when they moved into a three-bedroom property in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, with their daughter Natasha (together inset) and son Joseph.

The family quickly became friends with Brown and his hospital worker wife Dawn and the two families would often throw barbecues and parties together. However, the Coopers later discovered that Brown was using their friendship to groom and sexually abuse their daughter, who was just 14-years-old (pictured right aged 14, wearing one of Brown’s hats) when it began in 2010. Brown went behind his neighbours’ backs and tricked young Natasha into thinking she loved him before having sex with her on four occasions. He has now been jailed for three years, while Natasha, now aged 18 (left), has spoken out about the ordeal after deciding to waive her right to anonymity.

She said: ‘It just started off with holding hands when I was 13 while we were walking the dogs, but after a little while he would kiss me on the cheek, and the on the lips.

‘I really liked him and when I was 14, we had sex for the first time in a field. I knew it was wrong because he was married, but I didn’t care. He was so funny and mature, I fell completely in love with him.

‘In the end, I realised what I had to do, and told the police everything. It broke my heart because I felt like I was betraying Will. But I didn’t want our family to be torn apart anymore.’

Brown’s grooming and sexual abuse was discovered after Mrs Cooper saw her daughter and next-door neighbour close in the garden one night.

She confronted the pair, who both denied it, but pushed her daughter on the matter after Brown joked about not being able to keep his hands off the youngster.

The teenager eventually admitted the sexual activity to her mother, who informed Brown’s wife Dawn.

She said: ‘Dawn refused to believe me and got angry so I showed her the messages.

‘Natasha had begged me not to tell her dad but I couldn’t hide it from him.’

The family then reported Brown to the police, who fled his family home but was found and arrested at his sister’s house in September last year.

Hanging around the neck of the traveler was a very sophisticated Nikon camera. Excited to be in Nigeria, the tourist took snapshots of his favorite scenery wherever he went. All he wanted to do was create postcards for family and friends with these pictures as ‘proof’ of a time well spent on a long deserved vacation in Calabar and Abuja.
But halfway through his jamboree, he got arrested for pointing a camera at the wrong building.  Slammed with a heavy fine at the police station, his wonderful vacation took an unpleasant turn south.
This story is fiction, but it can be your reality if this go wrong. To prevent yourself from getting caught for taking pictures, Jovago.com lists a few places where using your camera is a no-no.
Military Barracks
Even from the ambiance, you should think twice before attempting to take any picture of military barracks whether it is the army, Navy or air force.

You can only imagine what they will do to you if they actually catch you. They may scold you if you are apprehended and you may have to forfeit the pictures or camera.

People on trains
If you are in nigeria for the first time or a visitor to Lagos and you see people sitting atop, standing between its coaches or even hanging from the doors of a moving train, don’t be surprised, don’t express shock. Turn around and walk away.

If you don’t want to be pelted with stones and abuse, keep your camera stowed away in a purse. The police is doing its best to arrest this but in the meantime, do what you can to stay safe.

Policemen and LASTMA on duty
Many pictures and videos taken of the Police and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have led to their dismissal from the force. For this reason, uniformed men fidget at the sight of a camera.
The brave ones that dare take pictures do it secretly and with utmost care. If you are caught, your phone may be seized. So, even if you have good intentions, keep your camera in your bag. It is not even advisable to carry your camera around your neck.

Government secretariats
Even though the entire government secretariat can’t be policed, taking pictures there is considered a security breach.

To be on the safe side, it is better to request permission officially before taking any pictures. Otherwise, you may be tagged a spy when caught in some of this sensitive places.

Nigeria’s airport is supposed to be the gateway into the country so visitors should be able to freely take pictures of their arrivals and perhaps departure at the terminal.

However, a different scenario plays out in Nigeria’s airports. The reason for this is because the airport is a high-security zone so it’s best to wait until you are a good distance from the terminal before pulling out that device.

According to new reports by The Daily Times, the Naira-Dollar exchange rate has now hit an all-time low of between N250 and N265 to $1 in the black market.

Despite these numbers, the official market rate on the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is N197 to the American currency.

CBN put the inflation rate at 9.2, the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 13 and crude oil price at $54.76 per barrel.

According to financial experts who spoke to The Daily Times reporters, “the wide disparity between the official rate and what obtains in the black market in an incentive to financial institutions to engage in round-tripping”. If the trend continues, the government would be left with no choice but to further devalue the Naira.

Terrorist group, boko haram have released a new beheading video in which they make more threats against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The terrorists unveiled the video showing part of their main battle tanks, armoured personnel carrier and huge artillery arsenal, which they recently captured.
