Akure Bank robbery; Police arraign suspect in court

Six suspected armed robbers who invaded a new generation bank along Oyemekun road Akure on November 22, 2011 were yesterday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate court sitting in Akure the state capital under tight security
The hoodlums who had earlier confessed to have committed the offence are Ikechukwu Maduagwu (20), Adewale Adeolu (30), Fayemi Olubusuyi (39), Mukaila Raji (30), Ropo Adeleye (45), and Dele Olokpa (40)
They were arraigned on a three count charge by the police prosecution, inspector Zakari IBRAHIM
It reads “that you the six accused and others on November 22, 2011 at about 1.00 p.m at diamond bank, akure did conspire together to commit felony to wit armed robbery and murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 6(a) and (b) of the robbery and fire arms (special division) act cap R11 law of the federation of nigeria 2004.
”that you (six accused) and other at large on the same date, time and place armed with AK47 rifles, rocket launchers, chian bullets, dynamite and GPMG military riffles attacked and robbed Diamond bank, akure by using dynamite and guns to blow off the security door of the bank and carted away the sum of N30 million and different brand of phones valued N200 and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 1 (2) a&b of the robbery and firearms (special provision) act cap R II law of the federarion of nigeria 2004.
“that you the six accused and others at large on the same date, time andplace did unlawfully shoot and killed tuned adebo, tuned obisesan, atolagbe Sunday and bankole olowoyelu (secutiry guard) attached to the bank and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 316 (1) of the criminal code cap 37 vol. 1 laws of ondo state of niugeria 2006.
The accused counsel, azeez ajagba urged the court to impress it on men of the state anti-robbery suad (SARS) not ot torture his clients.
The  presiding magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in SARS custody and adjourned the case to may 5, 2012 for hearing.”

Ben Bruce Gets Political Appointment

The Chairman of Silverbird Group, Ben Murray-Bruce has been appointed as a honourary special adviser in the cabinet of newly sworn in Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson.

In a statement made available to pressmen, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson says Mr. Bruce, 54, is expected to perform in advisory capacity as a ‘Special Adviser on Investment and Tourism, drawing on his wealth of experience in show business garnered over the years.

The move is intended to maximally boost Bayelsa state’s tourism sector, harnessing the vast economic potentials of its aquatic environment.

The entertainment boss back in October 2011 declared his intention to run for the governorship of same state but was later eliminated. Some say Bruce was disqualified because he possessed dual citizenship.

Bruce sits atop The Silverbird Group, which consists of Silverbird Entertainment, Silverbird Cinemas, Rhythm FM and Most Beautiful Girl Nigeria. The group is thought to be one of the largest media entertainment companies in Africa.

How Teju Babyface Proposed To Fiancée Tobi Banjoko

Popular comedian and MC Teju Babyface and Lagos-based model Tobi Banjoko are engaged.

The couple began dating a few months ago, but have known each other a very long time, according to sources close to the couple.

Tobi was also present at Teju’s late father’s wake keep in Lagos and burial in Oyo State and was reportedly quite active in the burial activities.

No wedding dates have been fixed yet, but the Introduction will be held in a few months, and we’re told the couple will make Teju’s 1004 Apartment their home after they get married.

Funmi Iyanda To Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.

On Monday, March 5, 2012 Journalist-Broadcaster Funmi Iyanda will join climbers from over 32 African countries in an advocacy climb up Mount Kilimanjaro.

The project, organized by the Africa UNiTE campaign group, is part of a crusade to end violence against women and girls.

The ‘climbers’, which include Iyanda, South African rock band the Parlotones, SA actress Rosie Motene, human rights lawyer, Ann Njogu, Congolese singer Barbara Kanam, and many other African women and men, are expected to arrive at Africa’s highest summit on Thursday, March 8, 2012, which falls on International Women’s Day.

As part of activities, all African national flags will be displayed and the Africa commitments will be read out.

The climb is expected to last for three days, as the climbers will hike up Kilimanjaro in freezing temperatures,camping outdoors and sleeping in sleeping bags without taking showers.

They will then return on the fourth day.

Through this climb, Africa Unite plans to raise global awareness on ending violence against Women and Girls in Africa, as well as secure concrete national commitments from African governments to be implemented by 2015 to end violence against women and girls.

Iyanda is not new to humanitarian causes. She was actively involved in the Occupy Nigeria protests in January and was nominated at the 51st Monte Carlo Television Festival category for ‘Lagos Stories’, an episode of ‘My Country Nigeria’, her three-part documentary on Nigeria.

Celine Dion Cancels Shows Till June due to Voice Problem

Grammy-winning singer Celine Dion announced Tuesday she had canceled a string of upcoming shows in Las Vegas due to a virus-triggered problem with her vocal chords.

      The Canadian-born star was due to sing at Caesars Palace in a series of shows through March 18, but has called them off after being ordered to rest her voice for six to eight weeks.

   Following the difficulties that she experienced with her vocal chords last week, which resulted in cancelled weekend performances, Celine decided to seek further expert medical advice from one of the leading international authorities on laryngeal physiology, Professor Gerald Berke M.D., UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

Celine flew to Los Angeles on Monday afternoon and had a thorough examination at Berke's clinic. He diagnosed Celine with weakness in her right vocal chord, secondary to a viral illness. and he prescribed 6-8 weeks of voice-rest in order for Celine to completely recover from this condition.

Celine said in a statement on her website

"I tried to sing at my sound-check last week, and I had no control of my voice whatsoever," said Celine. “We thought that after a few days rest I would improve but it wasn't getting any better....I guess it was worse than I thought. I'm fortunate that I was able to see Professor Berke. He identified what was causing the problems I was having, and he assured me that with the amount of rest he prescribed, I would be back to 100%. Obviously this is the worst thing for a singer....not being able to do your shows. I feel worse knowing that I'm disappointing my fans. I'm so sorry.....I hope they forgive me."

  Celine’s next run of performances beginning June 9 through August 19 will proceed as scheduled.

Nollywood Producer Sues Silverbird For 500 Million Naira

 Nollywood producer Blessing Effiom-Egbe, the producer of the hit movie “Two Brides & A Baby” is suing Silverbird Cinemas to the tune of 500 Million Naira for having deprived her of earnings from the movie in which she invested so much.
In what is tipped to be the Scandal of the Century,Nollywood producer Blessing Egbe has dragged the management of   Silverbird Cinemas to court over what she perceives as sharp practices by the Group!
A very pained Blessing said that since screening the movie, she is yet to receive a single kobo from her investment even though the movie was screened to packed halls in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt for over two months! Not only that, she says she was told the film had stopped screening in all cinemas of 13th of January only for her to discover it was not the case as the film continued to screen well into till February! And she has the evidence to prove it!
‘This movie cost me over 12 million naira to shoot, without counting the cost of hosting the premiere and to be duped like this is not something I will take sitting down! This is money I got from investors … how will I pay my investors not to mention making a profit when they are behaving like this?’ she said. She has contacted her lawyer and is suing Silverbird to the tune of N500 million naira!
Also listed in the suit are Mary Ephraim of OKHMA Global Limited, the distributor that co-ordinated the deal.

Van Persie suffers injury scare in Holland training by Ifreke Inyang

Arsenal’s striker, Robin van Persie, limped out of Holland’s training session last night. The 28-year-old, who has been in sensational form all season, seemed to be in discomfort towards the end of the one-hour session.
It is believed that he picked up the injury in the Gunner’s North London derby win last Sunday. And despite the scare, Van Marwijk, manager of the Dutch national team, remains hopeful the striker will play.
“We will have to wait and see but I don’t think it’s too serious. I am optimistic he will play,” he said.
Van Persie has shone for Arsenal in a topsy-turvy season and Van Marwijk is counting on the prolific frontman to deliver at the nationallevel too.

Erykah Badu Banned From Entering Malaysia Over Allah Tattoo

Neo-Soul singer Erykah Badu has been banned from performing a scheduled concert in Malaysia, after a recent picture emerged showing the singer's Arabic Allah tattoo on her back.

The singer, who was scheduled to perform in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, has now been shunned by Muslim groups who have now deemed the singer a bad role model for young Malaysian women.

Government officials banned the 41 year-old singer from performing, in the country citing "religious sensitivities”, and "failing to be in accord with Malaysian cultural values”, as the reason for halting the concert.

The news comes as a big blow for the singer who recently tweeted, “Malaysia!!” and “I deserve it.”

The singer has already flown to Malaysia, but can only remain there as a tourist but will not be allowed to perform in the country

Obasanjo wanted to kill me, Tinubu, over creation of more local governments in Lagos- Oba Akiolu

The Lagos  monarch Oba Rilwan Akiolu has alleged former President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted him and former Governor Bola Tinubu dead, following the crisis triggered by the creation of 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
During his tenure as governor, Tinubu created 37 LCDAs from the 20 local government areas, after conducting a referendum and getting the endorsement of the House of Assembly, which signed it into law.
The Obasanjo-led administration viewed the creation of council areas by the Alliance for Democracy (AD) state as an affront on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-controlled Federal Government.
Akinolu warned council chairmen not to let the people down by being redundant, stressing that the former President did everything he could to get rid of him for supporting Tinubu.
He spoke at the Seventh Assembly First Consultative Roundtable and Policy Retreat for Local Government Officials.
The monarch said: “Obasanjo attempted to get rid of Tinubu and I, but God saved us. I received a lot of threats and blackmail from the Obasanjo administration because of my disposition towards the creation of those LCDAs.
“The creation of more local government areas in Lagos was stopped by the Obasanjo administration even though he knew their importance, considering the influx of people into the state.”
He defended his association with the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) administration in the state.
Akinolu said those calling him a politician because of his support for the party are enemies of progress.
He said he would continue to support anybody who wishes Lagos well and works for its development, irrespective of where the person comes from.

SANTA MONICA, - Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner gave birth to her third child, a baby boy on Tuesday in California, a source close to the actress disclosed to UsMagazine.com.

The actress who's married to Ben Affleck had two daughters, Violet, 6 and Serafina, aged 3.

No other details about the baby's birth were immediately available.

The magazine outfit said neither Garner nor Affleck's publicist responded to their requests for comment.

A Guinness World Records team measured Chandra Bahadur Dangi at 54.60 centimetres (21.5 inches), declaring the 72-year-old even shorter the previous title holder, Junrey Balawing, from the Philippines, who stood at 23.5 inches at the age of 18 last year.The good news is that Chandra Bahadur Dangi is the world's shortest living man," Guiness Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday told reporters after measurements were taken.

"If he is really 72 years old he is the oldest person to be awarded the shortest-man record," Glenday said, adding Dangi was also the shortest person ever measured by the Guinness World Records.

From a poor and uneducated family in a remote part of Nepal, Dangi said he had never heard of Mount Everest and was unaware of the world record title before a timber merchant visited his remote village last month and decided to measure him.

His diminutive size has since made him a celebrity in the impoverished nation of 26.6 million people and he took a plane for the first time last week to travel from his village, Rimkholi, 267 km (167 miles) west of Kathmandu, to meet the Guiness World Records officials in the capital.

"I am good. I feel happy," Dangi said holding two framed certificates. "I want to travel around the world and spread the name of my country."

Dangi, whose parents died when he was still in his teens, lives with his brother with, he said, no desire to marry.

His family has no idea when he stopped growing as many Nepali villages still lack basic health care. Dangi has never seen a doctor in his life. Five of his brothers and two sisters are of normal size.

Dangi mostly stays at home, needing assistance to move around, preparing head straps used by villagers to carry loads.

Before Balawing, who was declared the shortest man in the world in June last year, another Nepali man, Khagnedra Thapa Magar, who stood 26.4 inches (67 centimetres) tall, held the title.

Woman Nabbed for Car snatching and Robbery

A young woman identified as Biodun Bamgbose,  alongside ten other suspects were paraded by the Ogun State Police Command for alleged armed robbery and cars snatching, among other allegations.
Speaking to newsmen at the Command’s Headquarters, in Abeokuta, the Police, PRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the woman was a member of a six-man team that are experts in car snatching in Ogun State.
According to Adejobi, “the lady, Biodun Bamgboye, will first make friend with a man who rides big cars. So, one day when she goes out with him, she will call her accomplice to come and snatch the car. The gang has been doing this for a while now, terrorising innocent citizens and dispossessing them of their belongings, we fought tooth and nail before these criminals were eventually arrested.”
He further asserted  that all the 10  suspects including the middle aged woman were arrested for robbery and cars snatching.
He praised the effort of the combined  Police and various communities.
The police PRO had assured Abeokuta residents of their safety. He
says: “We look forward to more smooth relationships with members of the public even as we assure you of your safety.”

He however said that five other suspects arrested for robbing in
different parts of the state would soon be charged to court alongside other suspects.

Applying False Eye Lashes

• Apply makeup as you normally do, however, make sure your eyeliner is thicker. This will enable you to conceal your false eyelash line, framing and merging them well with your eyes.
• Be very careful while taking them out of the box so that do not tear or damage. You can even trim them according to your eye size, before using.
• Now, curl your eye lashes so that the false ones adjust properly on yours.
• For applying false eyelashes, eyelash adhesive is required which usually comes along with the lashes.
• Spread a thin layer of eyelash adhesive onto the eyelash strip, as too much of the glue might become messy.
• Wait for a second, till the glue becomes a little thick.
• Now, gently put the false eyelashes on your natural ones. Begin with the outer corner of your eye, placing them as close as possible to your natural eyelash line.
• Readjust the eyelashes if you don’t find the position right as the glue will be soft in the beginning.
• Press them gently, making them firm on the outer corners of the strip to ensure they stick on.
• Make sure you do not have a white line appearing, as this indicates that there is gap between the two eyelashes.
• To fix the problem, you can either try to readjust it there itself or you can remove them and place again.
• After your eyelash adhesive is completely dry, apply a few coats of mascara. For finishing touches, curl them with an eye

Love by bullet: Policeman shoots lover, absconds with sister

They started out as lovers but ended up as boxers. This is the trending news in Bariga area of Lagos. Like script written for the screen, the love between the lovebirds started out on a very good note but only for residents of the area to wake up to behold other side of love.
The story goes thus: A policeman man identified as Corporal Emmanuel Okujo shot his former girlfriend in the face with his service pistol and eluded with his victim’s younger sister to an unknown destination.
“The shocking incident happened on February 17, 2012, when the suspect attached to Ifako Police Division, Lagos, invaded the one-room apartment occupied by the two sisters, Blessing Isabor, 22, and Patience Isabor, 18, at No. 12 Ifateludo Street, Bariga, Lagos, at about 7:30 a.m., brandishing a pistol and seething with murderous rage. Within 30 minutes, the dastard deed was done. What started as a threat from the officer of law culminated in a grim conclusion with him pumping bullets directly into Blessing’s face, thereby inflicting grave injuries on her once pretty face, after which he fled the crime scene with Patience to an unknown destination.”
The incident, an eye witness said started thus:  “I was in my room when my son ran in and told me that he saw the police officer pointing a gun at Blessing. Fear gripped me immediately and I ran into the girls’ room. I was shocked when I got there and beheld Okujo (the policeman) with his pistol drawn, threatening to shoot my cousins. He was pointing the gun at Blessing, but it was the two sisters who were both crying and begging him not to shoot them. I also joined them in begging him not to shoot them, no matter what they have done to him. Instead of listening to my pleas, he ordered me to leave or else he would shoot me as well. I ran out and raised an alarm. By the time I returned, he had shot Blessing and disappeared with Patience.”
“He used to come here to eat (pointing at a nearby canteen where she sells food), wearing his uniform most times.  I also know that he was very close to my sisters. Sometimes he would just come and go to their room directly”.
“All I know is that the police officer dated Blessing for some months but suddenly switching over to Patience. We were all wondering how a responsible man could stoop so low as to have affairs with two blood sisters within a time frame of about eight months. He is just wicked because I know he was sleeping with the two of them”.
However, another insider quipped: “The Police officer after dating Blessing for some months abandoned her and started going out with her younger sister. He said he saw Blessing with another man. But must he because of that start ‘friending’ her younger sister? I am still wondering how Patience decided to start going out with a man that has already dated her elder sister. Maybe it’s because of the gifts he used to bring to her.”
When police officers from Ifako Police division visited Okujo’s Obalende resident sequel on the incident, a family member noted: “They discovered the policeman’s cloth and that of Patience, both bloodstained. We don’t know what he must have done to Patience; we don’t know where she is now.
While the Police are working tirelessly to get to the root of the matter, the ‘victim of love’ Blessing is currently ‘hanging between life and death at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Lagos State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Jaiyeoba Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said the matter is currently under investigation

DEADLY PUNCH – Man beats wife to death for eating his food

What could’ve led to a man beating his hard-earned wife to the grave? Is still the question on the lips of many residents of No. 2, Olushola Close, Abule Taylor, Abule Egba, a sruburb of Lagos.

The people are still wondering aimlessly on why one Mr. Peter Odion, a native Ishan in Edo State could allegedly beat his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Ohalele Odion to death for eating the food he cooked.

Unraveling the genesis of the fight-turned-death, Chiweiko Ohalele, sister of the deceased who lives with them before the luciferious incident disclosed: “I was in my village meeting on Sunday afternoon when one of our neighbours called me on phone to meet them at a hospital at Abule Egba over my sister’s condition.

“When I got there, I met my sister in an unconscious state with blood dripping from her head and face. In fact, she could not neither talk nor recognise me.

“I begged the doctor on duty to transfer her to the General Hospital at Ilepo because her condition was very bad. And he obliged.

“But before she could be attended to at the General Hospital, my sister died.

“When I confronted her husband, Peter Odion, who was also in the hospital on what transpired between him and my sister, he said he fought my sister for trying to eat the eba he made for himself.”

According to Mr. Peter, the ‘domestic war’ broke out when they both returned from the church service and he told his wife to prepare eba for him and her daughter, but she refused, claiming she had headache.

Voracious Mr. Peter who would no longer wait for her went and prepared the eba. For daring to eat from the food he laboured to prepare, he pounced on her and Mr. Peter in the process allegedly pushed his wife (Ifeoma) and she hit her head on a hard object inside the room and fainted. She was rushed to the hospital, but she eventually gave up the ghost.

“I did not intend to kill her because we have not had any disagreement before the tragic incident happened. “I pray that God would forgive me,” Peter told his in law regretfully.

However, the Police arrested him when doctor confirmed her dead, and he was taken to the Oke Odo Police Division, Ilepo, Abule Egba, Lagos, after which he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba for further interrogation.

Chaos in bank as woman bathes cashier with faeces

he calm and peaceful first generation bank in Akure in Ondo State Capital (name withheld) turned to hell when a lady, identified as Sade, bathed a cashier (names withheld) with faeces while attending to her customer in the bank hall for purportedly snatching her (Sade) husband.
The peaceful and serene bank hall turned to hell as bankers and customers took to their heels after the woman rained abuses on the cashier and emptied the substance she brought into the bank in polythene bag on the cashier.
The assailant who beat the bank security pretended to be one of the customers, only to pour the smelly faeces on the busy cashier claiming that she snatched her husband. The stench took over the banking hall just as all the customers ran to the door to escape the odour.
It was gathered that management of the bank arranged for the cashier immediately to wash her body and to change to a new cloth after the incident.
A banker had stated thus “All of us, including my colleague who was assaulted, were busy attending to customers when the young lady came in and started raining abusive words on the victim, in an embarrassing way. She called her unprintable names and accused her of snatching her husband.
“We were shocked and we tried to shout her down only for her to open a polythene bag she carried, thinking that she wanted to make some deposit but what she brought out shocked everybody.
“She removed the bag containing the terribly smelly faeces which she instantly poured on her victim”.
Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer at the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, affirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and will  be charged to court after due interrogations.
Adeniran, said, “The incident happened around noon on Friday and the suspect, who is already with us, came to Akure from Owo with a can containing smelly faeces which she poured on the banker.
“She will be charged to court after necessary investigations had been concluded on the case”.
