Nigeria qualifies for It first U-19 Cricket World Cup
Nigeria’s under 19 Cricket Team, the “Junior Yellow Green”, on Saturday booked the country’s first ever spot at the Cricket World Cup.
They achieved this feat after topping the week-long qualifying series that was concluded in Windhoek, Namibia.
The team defeated Sierra Leone with two wickets in a tension soaked encounter.
Nigeria started on a bright note (having been left to field, in the first innings) with the bowling attack on point with Sierra Leone struggling to piece together a decent partnership.
However, it was Kamara Henry who tormented Nigeria’s bowlers and denied them vital points.
Nigeria won by two wickets to qualify as the first team in West Africa to qualify for the ICC U-world Cup scheduled to take place January 2020 in South Africa.
Elated President of Nigeria Cricket Federation, Adams Yahaya Ukwenya, has said that this is the most cherished moment in Nigeria’s Cricket history.
“This is history that has just been made, and Nigeria’s Cricket has attained a new height that has never been reached, and we are very happy for this achievement,” he said.
